After School: Computational Thinking Coding Camp

Light-Bot-Coding-Camp

Camp Overview

3 Day Camp: Coding, Robotics, and Math 6th – 12 grade. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders meet on Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10th – 12th graders meet on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

CODING CAMP DESCRIPTION

This is week 1 of a 4 week project involving Math, Coding, and Robotics. This week, students are introduced to programming concepts where they learn how to think procedurally. Students will explore the concept of Loops and Functions which they will later need to apply in a Raspberry Pi & Python project. Students will learn from enthusiastic college Grad students or Industry professionals with a passion for sharing coding best practices in a fun and immersive environment.

Parents: Please note that each of the four camps can stand alone as a complete course. Therefore, if for some reason your child can’t stay for all four weeks, he/she will still have benefited tremendously from the week that he/she will be able to attend. Also,
bear in mind that we will be offering these courses throughout the Summer so may sign up your child so that they can pick up from where he/she left off.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Light Bot takes students through a series of increasingly difficult puzzles where they must give instructions to a robot to get it from point A to point B. There may be several ways to achieve these tasks but there is often the optimal set of standards.

This course will help students first understand that coding is basically giving a computer instructions. Once they hone in on this skill, students will then learn how to give the most efficient instructions making them critical thinkers and excellent problem solvers along the way.

If the student will be staying the length of the camp (4 Weeks) he/she will learn that we use math to create the instructions which we will later use to make a robot do something really cool.
