Micro: Bit Coding Camp (3 days)

SUMMER CODING CAMP DESCRIPTION
During week 2 of a 4 week summer camp students will learn how to operate the tiny but powerful BBC Micro:Bit. Students will apply Math concepts, and learn the coding language, Javascript. The need for Javascript programmers is on the rise and will continue to do so for a long while because of its wide use in Web Development.
This week, students will apply their newly acquired procedural thinking skills that they learnt in Week 1. Students will learn how to configure the Micro:Bit chips and set up the environment to code using MakeCode. Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructors are Electrical Engineering, Computer Software Engineering graduates and/or industry professionals with a passion for sharing coding best practices in a fun and immersive environment.
Parents: Please note that each of the four camps can stand alone as a complete course. Therefore, if for some reason your child can’t stay for all four weeks, he/she will still have benefited tremendously from the week that he/she will be able to attend. Also,
bear in mind that we will be offering these courses throughout the Summer so may sign up your child so that they can pick up from where he/she left off.

COURSE OUTCOMES
In this course, students will be introduced to hands on programming as it is done in a job setting. Fun goals and tasks will be included which will encourage students to further apply critical thinking and problem solving skills.
In addition, if the student is signed on for the full length of the camp (4 Weeks) he/she will optimize functions that will be used to control his/her robot during week 4. It’s is a really cool time because students begin to understand how powerful coding is when one can make an object do something using a few lines of written English.
